What is Cadence?

Cadence is a real-time audio running coach that guides you through any run and adapts to your heart rate and pace on the fly - prompting you when you are out of zone or going too fast/slow. It’s built to keep you in rhythm, hands-free, and progressing toward your goals without fiddling with your phone.

How is Cadence different from other running apps?

1. Cadence coaches you in the moment. Delivering the right prompt at the right second based on your live data.

2. Unlike other static training and preset plans, we can guide you through any run. Whether you have an existing workout in mind or what to create one with the help our AI chat (Coach Cadence) — Run Programs Coming Soon

Did I see Cadence has a run community?

Yes! Cadence hosts a free community track workout every Wednesday AM at 7:00am to 8:00am at Corsair Field (Santa Monica College Track). Everyone is welcome; people of all running levels.

How It Works & App Support

Do I need a wearable to use Cadence?

No. If you have a wearable that broadcasts heart rate, Cadence adapts coaching around it. Without one, Cadence can still guide you using pace, distance, and workout structure (you will still need your phone). — Apple Watch & Garmin Watch Apps Coming Soon

What wearables do you support?

Short answer: Any wearable that supports broadcasting heart rate.

The following devices are confirmed to work (you may need to enable broadcasting- see more below):

1. Whoop:
Steps to enable HR broadcasting

  • Open Whoop App > Upper Righ Hand Corner ‘Device Settings’ > Toggle Broadcast HR ON

2. Garmin: Steps to enable HR broadcasting (Do it on Garmin Watch)

3. Apple Watch: Download our Apple Watch app. Currently, it is a basic implementation that allows broadcasting of HR.

  • To enable heart rate broadcasting on Apple Watches both devices should be paired (iPhone ↔ Apple Watch). The Cadence app must be installed on both devices. Before starting a workout, ensure the application is active on both the iPhone and Apple Watch, and that you've pressed the "Start" button on your phone and watch.

4. Huawei

  • Open Huawei Watch > Settings > activate “HR data broadcast”

Newer devices from Polar, Fitbit, and Samsung should broadcast HR as well. The above have devices have just been confirmed by our internal team.

What type of runs does Cadence support?

Basically every type of run you can think of! -basic Zone 2 runs, instense intervals, tempo sessions, pace progression, climbs, distance-based, time-based, etc.

You can also create a multi-run block such as:

Block 1: 1 miles Warm-Up. First 400m @ 10:00/mi, Next 400m @ 9:00/mi, 400m @ 8:00/mi, 400m @ 9:00/mi.

Block 2: 5x5:00min Intervals @ 8:00/mi pace with 90 sec rest.

Block 3: 10 minute @ Zone 4

Block 4: 10 minute Cooldown

Will Cadence talk over my music or podcast? Can I be on the phone?

Yes! We will automatically lower your music, prompt you, and return you music to orginal volume.

For podcasts, we will pause your podcast, prompt you, and start your podcast.

If you are on the phone, prompts will come on in the background (create for a long Zone 2 run & catching up with a friend!)

How can I get some help? I have an issue with the app. Or I have an idea for a new feature
